I’m very happy to say my ghost story ‘Owen’s Wynd’ has been chosen for Broken Ground, the first anthology at Uncertain Stories.
My story is a love letter to the early 20th-century ghost stories of M. R. James, in particular ‘Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad’, one of his most famous, adored, and adapted works. I had a lot of fun writing it and I hope you enjoy reading it too.
Uncertain Stories is a new publishing house from the team at The Fiction Desk, with a focus on supernatural and speculative fiction. The Fiction Desk published a story of mine in 2024 and it’s such a pleasure to be working with editor Rob Redman again. And now also with artist Lucy Scott, who is illustrating this anthology! I love her drawings for Owen’s Wynd and how cleverly they respond to the story.
I’m delighted Owen’s Wynd has found a home alongside other stories of the spooky and the strange. It’s really exciting to be a part of something with other writers working in this area, edited by someone with a real sense of this kind of work. I can’t wait to read the other stories.
You can learn more about my story, read an excerpt, see the amazing illustrations, and find out how to pre-order a copy of the anthology here.
Pre-orders are now open, and the anthology will be published in October 2025.
